Genesis 3:17-19 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

Years ago, a college professor said to our class that he believed in God, but all believers in God have a conflict in understanding how a God of love would allow earthquakes, tidal waves, or famine. Many of you have probably heard of the recent earthquake in Asia and the damage caused in Guatemala from hurricane Stan. This is question that my teacher presented to the class and the Lord allowed me to answer. We need to declare the truth that man lived in the Garden of Eden, and all was perfect until man chose to sin and disobey God. For this the earth is cursed. But, thanks to God, He has also provided a way that man may return to Paradise with Eternal Life through His Son. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; (2 Cor.5:18)

Guatemala has suffered flooding in many parts and even more tragically the ground has been so saturated that massive mudslides have covered complete villages even as they slept. Two web pages with more details are:

Our young people went out around the neighborhood and collected clothes and food. Then we added more stuff from what people bought to church. After this we went over to deliver everything to a Christian collection point in the city. We dropped the stuff off and, asked them if they needed any help as we had all the young people with us. It was within a few minutes that a truck pulled up and we were able to help fill it with all we collected along with other supplies that were there.

Cathy and I went to the store on Monday and bought specific things that the collection point told us they were lacking and needed such as flashlights because many areas are without power and they are still searching for bodies. We also bought diapers, milk, and aspirin (adult and children). We also dropped that off on Monday. Then on Tuesday we went to Antigua and visited a family that needed food and some supplies. They had been flooded with mud about 6 feet deep. We were able to get into that area to deliver food, but many areas are closed off because of police trying to keep the roads clear for workers. There are bridges washed out on main highways and many landslides that wiped out roads. Not even the military has been able to get into some communities. I know Monday they reported that the helicopters were only able to make two flights because of the bad weather (this is rainy season and we still have a month left of that). There are town’s people setting up homes on the highways until they know where they can go live. There are also entire towns that are being labeled cemeteries. We plan to take more supplies on Sunday because collection points are already running out of basic food and pure water to take to the areas severely hit.

We are safe and well, but there are many needs physical and spiritual. Thank you for your prayers and financial support.
