January 2007

Greetings from Guatemala,

We are reminded in Proverbs 27:1, how things could change from one day to the next (Boast. not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth) but with each day, (This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.) Psalm 118: 24

We were filled with joy to see how God marvelously guided the doctors with little Ana and how God strengthened her. Then we heard reports from Honduras of people getting saved in services of Praise and Thanksgiving. While talking with the parents, Ramon and Lesvy, on the telephone, we were able to hear Ana laughing in the background. That was such a blessing as she was only able to make small grunting sounds when she came.

Then we were able to provide a home for two weeks to a Mexican evangelist and his family while they ministered in Guatemala and recuperated from sickness that affected his wife and newborn.

In December, more than 70 kids came for our Vacation Bible School and we saw two mothers begin to attend services.

The Christmas outreach went great. We rented a bus for the day to take our musicians along with the instruments and equipment to two different churches. One was about an hour outside of the city in San Lucas and the other was on the opposite side of the city in Zone 18. There were some minor problems getting the bus down some streets in San Lucas but all went well. The church in Zone 18 was filled with many visitors and several people got saved.

Then .....

We received word from two churches that they would not be able to continue supporting us.
Young people and families in the church became divided over the littlest things with four young people leaving the Praise Group (Still in church though).

Then, two banks in Guatemala closed and one of them had the church savings towards buying property, about $14,000. We found ourselves like thousand of people in Guatemala thinking that the money was in a savings account at the bank when it had been switched to a custodian account supposedly through someone not of the bank but working through the bank (so the bank wasn’t responsible??). So far investigations have found addresses to vacant parking lots and non existing banks in Miami along with several locations in Panama. The bank had no insurance policy for the funds so as you can imagine, there are many protests and insecurity in the country. Some people had more than $200,000 in the accounts from selling property and depositing it in a “safe” place for a year.

The blessing is that God is still on the throne and we serve a Risen Saviour.
Thank you for your prayers and support
